UShareSoft today announced the latest version of its UForge Appliance Factory, the fastest way to deliver applications to the cloud, which offers:

  • New “one-click publish” of virtual appliances to VMware, Amazon EC2, and Eucalyptus
  • Support for additional Microsoft and image formats
  • Additional operating system (OS) support, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, Debian and Solaris

UForge is a unique software factory for building virtual appliances and delivering applications to a public or private cloud. UForge enables users to build, maintain, extend and clone virtual appliances in minutes, then generate to their chosen virtual or cloud format. Now, users can publish their appliance in a single click to Amazon EC2, VMware vSphere, CloudStack or Eucalyptus environments. Additionally, UForge enables account management for these environments, for simple access control and logging of published appliances.

UForge also offers expanded OS and image format support, in line with UShareSoft's strategy to deliver applications on any OS to any cloud.

  • UForge now supports Microsoft Hyper-V, VHD and QCOW2 formats, offering the industry's broadest range of image formats, including Amazon AMI, EMI, VMware ESXi, OVF, KVM, VirtualBox and ISO.
  • On-premise, UForge Enterprise Edition supports any Linux/UNIX OS including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Unbreakable Linux and Solaris. Online, UForge supports Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and CentOS. UShareSoft plans to add Windows support in the first half of 2011.

“UShareSoft's technology just made it even easier to use a public or private cloud,” said Peder Ulander, CMO. “Customers can quickly generate CloudStack-compatible templates with UForge, then instantly push out to our Enterprise Edition or open source Community Edition.”

“The BizSpark program is a great way for startups to connect with Microsoft and find the technical and business support they need from our ecosystem,” said Alfonso Castro, Director, Interoperability Strategy, Microsoft. “UShareSoft has already added Hyper-V support, and we're now working together to enable UForge customers to build Windows-based software appliances in the future.”

With UForge, ISVs can quickly prepare multiple versions of their software for different IT environments. UForge vApps—complete multi-tier IT solutions in a single appliance—also allow them to easily offer their software as a SaaS platform or make on-site deployments faster and more predictable. Enterprises, integrators and solution providers can efficiently test and deliver new IT services on a public or private cloud. They also enjoy greater flexibility to move between clouds, helping avoid lock in to one vendor.

Additionally, UShareSoft has published a REST API, enabling customers to automate their complete software delivery life cycle from code compile and software assembly to testing, deployment and post-installation configuration in the cloud. This helps ISVs and enterprises massively reduce the time it takes to build, assemble, test and deliver new software and services.

New UForge Online “Team” and “Business” subscriptions are available immediately, offering ISVs private collaboration spaces for multiple users and access to UForge vApps.

UShareSoft also offers UForge Enterprise Edition, a private, on-premise appliance factory for enterprise customers.
