“The world readers have since then lacked the opportunity to know about the success of the Azerbaijani literature. Therefore, this anthology is of great importance.”

In an effort to increase world recognition of Azerbaijani literature, Vagif Sultanly and İraj İsmaely have collected what they believe are the best samples of such literature published in the last 30 years in their 2012 book, “Modern Azerbaijanian Prose” (published by Trafford Publishing), which is set to appear in the Frankfurt Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, October 9-13, 2013.
“Azerbaijani prose was first published about half century ago during the Soviet period in Moscow,” Ismaely writes. “The world readers have since then lacked the opportunity to know about the success of the Azerbaijani literature. Therefore, this anthology is of great importance.”
The anthology includes the work of Ismail Shikhly, Isa Muganna, Anar, Akram Aylisli, Rustam Ibrahimbekov, Elchin, Alisa Nijat, Movlud Suleymanly, Vagif Sultanly and other authors. Ismaely considers these writers prominent representatives of Azerbaijani literature. Their books have been translated into different world languages. Together, these stories describe the social and ethical life of the Azerbaijani people.
Ismaely believes “Modern Azerbaijanian Prose” will be of interest to “… readers who are interested in the literary process of the post-Soviet countries, Orientalists, turkologists and specialists interested in Caucasian culture.”
