Live Music, Theater and HD Video Workshop at Vanguard University’s Celebration of the Arts

Vanguard University will present some of the finest Christian arts events in southern California at its inaugural Celebration of the Arts, April 6-10, featuring nationally renowned theater and music programs, visual arts displays, a Sundance documentary and a workshop for aspiring and amateur photographers.

Join us April 6 – 10 for the inaugural Celebration of the Arts featuring Vanguard University’s nationally renowned theater, music and communication programs.

The variety and quality of these events is really impressive. This is some of the most exceptional live entertainment in Orange County.

Vanguard University will present some of the finest Christian arts events in southern California at its inaugural Celebration of the Arts, April 6-10, featuring nationally renowned theater and music programs, visual arts displays, a Sundance documentary and a workshop for aspiring and amateur photographers.

“The variety and quality of these events is really impressive,” says Kelly Kannwischer, interim vice president for advancement. “This is some of the most exceptional live entertainment in Orange County.”

Shakespeare’s classic drama Romeo and Juliet will come to life at one of the top Christian theater programs in the U.S., playing at Vanguard’s Lyceum Theater April 8, 9 and 10. Vanguard’s theatre program has received major recognition from the Kennedy Center, and continues to send alums into the highest levels of acting for stage and screen.

Amateur and aspiring photographers can attend a workshop called Master Session: Filming with high-end consumer digital cameras. The April 9 workshop will teach participants how to buy, use and maximize the potential of new consumer digital cameras equipped with stunning HD video.

Fans of documentaries will enjoy a screening of Sundance award-winning documentary Amandla!, followed by an audience discussion with the creators about how media changes the world around us. It takes place April 9 at 4 pm.

Other events include photography and painting exhibits featuring the brilliant work of Vanguard’s artist-in-residence, plus superior student work and a “Vanguard Community Photography Display” depicting the Vanguard experience through photos taken by everyday members of the Vanguard community.

Highlighting the week is the Spring Concert by the Vanguard choir and orchestra, fresh off a performance at New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The Concert is a culminating presentation of the best music from their fall and spring repertories, to be held Sunday, April 10 at 4 pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
