All learners, particularly the very youngest, grasp concepts and ideas better when they can see a visual representation
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) March 22, 2011
As states and school districts around the country implement learning goals, particularly the new Common Core State Standards, visual learning methodologies will play a key role in helping their students meet rigorous achievement objectives. To support this critical endeavor, Varitronics, a leading manufacturer and supplier of products that enhance visual and kinesthetic learning, today unveiled VariQuest Learning Modules , designed to help teachers of preK-6 integrate VariQuest Visual Learning Tools into teaching and learning.
With VariQuest Visual Learning Tools , including the Design Center 1000, Poster Maker 3600, Cutout Maker 1800 and Awards Maker 400, teachers can use the new Learning Modules to create posters, cutouts, flashcards and awards that support instructional activities across the curriculum, particularly accommodating students with visual and kinesthetic learning styles.
All 12 VariQuest Learning Modules are aligned to the new Common Core State Standards for English language arts and mathematics, as well as individual state standards for language arts, math, science and social studies. By visiting the VariQuest website, teachers can quickly and easily use the free standards alignment tool to develop a state, grade and subject alignment report for each Learning Module that will help them know which learning goals the content and activities are helping their students meet.
"All learners, particularly the very youngest, grasp concepts and ideas better when they can see a visual representation," said Julia Cremin, VariQuest content development specialist, Varitronics. "Students are more engaged in learning when concepts are illustrated, and topics they may have been struggling with become clear with visuals. We developed the VariQuest Learning Modules to allow teachers to take the ways that they integrate our visual learning tools into the curriculum to the next level by providing them with standards-aligned lessons and activities."
Each Learning Module in this growing collection includes an Activity Guide containing 10 Learning Activities with strategies for adapting the activities to meet the needs of all learners and a CD with 30 to118 cutout shapes, fonts and/or collections for use with the VariQuest Cutout Maker.
For example, the Reading & Writing 2: Vocabulary, Punctuation, Reading & Writing Learning Module will help students in grades 3-6 learn the basic skills of the writing process, including the grammatical and mechanical conventions used in written composition. The more than 40 shapes included allow teachers to visually represent concepts such as what is an adverb, how to begin to develop an essay or when to use hyphens, dashes, colons and semicolons.
With the Life Science I: Weather & Seasons Learning Module, teachers of students in grades preK-2 can use the 100 shapes and eight collections to illustrate everything from the four seasons to the phases of the moon and the water cycle.
Complex mathematical concepts will come alive for students when teachers use the math Learning Modules, such as Measurement & Geometry 1 and 2, to teach basic shapes, patterns, lines and angles, area and attributes of two- and three-dimensional shapes to elementary students.
VariQuest Visual Learning Tools with lessons and activities that incorporate visual and hands-on learning strategies reinforce basic skills, and provide motivational activities that supplement a school's curriculum.
