The USAA-sponsored Veteran Transition Course Will Complete the 2015 Schedule Next Tuesday at The Centennial Banquet and Conference Center for Service Members and Their Spouses

Veterans participate in the Military Leader Transition Seminar at Ft. Benning in Columbus, GA

On November 17, current and former service members with Afterburner, Inc. will deliver a unique transition preparation seminar for Fort Bliss service members and military spouses to mark the end of a successful 2015 seminar schedule. The day-long course is designed to equip service members with a strategic transition plan that mitigates common challenges for transitioning veterans entering the workforce. Sponsored by USAA, the program takes place from 0700 EST to 1730 EST, is free of charge and is open to all ranks and branches, as well as spouses. Dress is dress business casual unless duty dictates otherwise.

The MTS supports the current mandated transition preparation training known as SFL-TAP, complementing that curriculum with a hands-on, strategic workshop where service members are guided through strategic career planning by veterans who have made the successful transition to the civilian workforce. These veterans are employees of the VOSB (Veteran Owned Small Business) Afterburner, Inc., a leadership development and management training company comprised of veterans who share their successful transition examples with MTS participants, and training them to do the same.

Since December 2013, the MTS has been delivered 19 times across 14 installations, equipping over 2000 veterans and their spouses with the insights and techniques to create more than 1800 transition and career development plans.

The seminar’s curriculum is based on Down Range: A Transitioning Veteran’s Career Guide to Life’s Next Phase (2013), a transition guidebook co-authored by Afterburner Founder & CEO, James “Murph” Murphy, and Director of Learning & Development, Retired Navy Cmdr. William M. Duke.

Leveraging 19 years of corporate training and consulting and the collective transition experiences of Murphy, Duke and Afterburner’s 50+ veteran team members, Down Range introduces a unique transition perspective and provides a holistic approach for planning and achieving post-transition success. Focused on a values-centric desired future state, then working backwards to the initial post-transition Course of Action, ensures the service member remains strategically aligned to their goals.

“[The Military Transition Seminar was] by far the most insightful 8 hours I have ever had the pleasure of attending,” writes recent MTS participant MAJ (ret.) Joe Kearney. “Anyone that has the time (if not make the time) should attend this seminar...Drive, fly or take a may be the single most important day you spend as you plan the next step in your career after the military.”

Last month, the Afterburner and USAA teams traveled to South Korea for the MTS program’s first international deliveries. The teams traveled to four U.S. installations: USAG Daegu, Camp Humphreys, USAG Casey and USAG Yongsan, guiding more than 450 service members through strategic transition and career planning.
