Pima Medical Institute announced the unveiling of a state-of-the-art surgical theater at the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility. The new surgical theater serves as an addition to the Pima Medical Institute classrooms and surgical center developed in a 2009 partnership with the City of Chula Vista, Mayor Cox and the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility to train current and future veterinary technician and veterinary assistant school students.

Pima Medical Institute students will be able to use the surgical theater to see and interact with instructors and other students as they perform procedures. It is equipped with a 42-inch flat screen monitor, four cameras (one in the x-ray room, one in the surgery room and two in the surgical prep room), a CD/DVD player and a two-way audio component that enables an instructor to explain procedures as they are being performed, and for students to ask questions remotely.

In addition, the equipment is Internet-ready, so students will have the ability to view the class procedures online from any computer with Internet access through a dedicated website.

This new teaching tool is a benefit not only to Pima students, but to the CVACF as well. The CVACF will have access to all the equipment for their own use, such as continuing education seminars and team-building activities.
