Truveo Grows to Reach 39 Million Monthly Users
Consumer Use of Video Search Increases as New Partners Rapidly Sign on
to Use Truveo’s Leading Video Search Engine
SAN FRANCISCO (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) June 20, 2007 --
Truveo announced today that its video search engine has reached an
audience of almost 40 million monthly unique visitors –
according to comScore MediaMetrix*, one of the leaders in Internet
audience measurement data. Since October of 2006, Truveo has also seen a
50% month-over-month increase in usage** across all of the websites
powered by Truveo (http://www.truveo.com).
While the amount of video on the Internet has continued to grow at a
tremendous rate, there have been major shifts recently in where this
video can be found. Content owners are forcing video destination sites
to remove tens of thousands of copyrighted videos—which
often are among the most popular videos. Often, these videos are still
legally available elsewhere on the Web, leaving video search engines as
the only one-stop-shop where consumers can find video.
“Last year Internet video hit the mainstream,
but this year it’s consumer’s
use of video search that is exploding as people look for a one-stop-shop
for video. We’ve seen steady growth since we
launched, but the recent 50% month-over-month growth we are now seeing
represents a fundamental shift in user behavior,”
said Timothy Tuttle, CEO and Co-Founder of Truveo and Senior Vice
President of AOL Video. “Users are realizing
that their favorite video may no longer be available on video sharing
sites due to copyright issues, but they can still easily find legal
versions of those videos elsewhere on the Web through a video search
engine like Truveo.”
In addition, Truveo™, which already powers
some of the most popular video sites on the Web, extended its reach with
a number of significant new partners who are using the company’s
video search engine to power video search on their websites and
applications. These new partners include: Brightcove, Clevver, CSTV,
Flock, Pageflakes, PureVideo, Qwest, Search.com, Sportingo, Netvibes,
Widgetbox and YourMinis. These new partners join AOL®
Video, AOL® Search, Excite, Infospace,
Microsoft Corporation and hundreds of others who are already using
Truveo.
Truveo has rapidly become the leading video search engine because its
advanced “Visual Crawler”
technology is able to find more of the videos available on the Web and
more meta-data about each video making for a more satisfying and
successful search experience. Partners are flocking to Truveo because of
the company’s industry-leading suite of open
video search APIs available at http://developer.truveo.com.
These APIs enable developers and website operators to build applications
with powerful video search and discovery features that access Truveo’s
extensive index of tens-of-millions of online videos.
“We’re excited
about the opportunity to add high quality video search like Truveo
offers directly into the Flock browser,” said
Shawn Hardin, Flock President and Chief Executive Officer. “Flock
integrates media, online services and people into its browser to give
users greater control over their Web experience, and make it easy to
interact, discover and share online. Video search is a critical
component of that experience and is built into Flock’s
upcoming 0.9 release.”
"Pageflakes lets people easily personalize their Web experience using
Flakes (widgets), and video is an important part of that," said Dan
Cohen, Pageflakes CEO. "Working with Truveo, we've been able to deliver
an engaging video experience that is wildly popular with Pageflakes
users and Pagecasters around the world."
“When we created a video search widget, it
was critical that it give users the most relevant results from the
widest collection of videos,” said Ed Anuff,
co-founder and CEO of Widgetbox. “Truveo was
easy to implement and it gave us the power to create a search widget
that returns great results.”
“Today there are so many sources of Internet
video, we wanted our users to have a widget that enables them to quickly
and easily find any video on the Web,” said
Alex Bard, President and CEO of Goowy Media. “Truveo
was a great solution for creating a one-stop-shop video widget for
YourMinis users.”
