With much riding on London 2012 to secure tourism and investment for years to come, it is the capital city of Catalonia that leads the way and provides a great example. EuroParcs, who have operated holidays on nearby year-round camping resort, Vilanova Park, for over 15 years has reported a 10% increase in bookings compared to last year.

Rod Jones, Director at EuroParcs explained ‘The seaside resort of Vilanova i la Geltru has always been popular, not only is it typical of this area of Spain with many great beaches (the nearby beach at Passeig Ribes Roges is the more well known) and summer temperatures to suit young children; but also because the resort is close to Barcelona. In fact just 30 minutes by car or train and therefore perfect for day trips and of course evenings out, sampling the nightlife, eating al fresco and taking relaxing strolls down the Ramblas to the Port. ‘

Jones continues ‘Whether it is the mass publicity that the 2012 Olympics has received thus far that has inspired more holidaymakers to choose the former Olympic city for a holiday, I don’t know for sure, but nevertheless they won’t be disappointed. ‘

Barcelona made 14th place in the list of the most ‘liveable’ cities in the world by global affairs magazine Monocle, and has many famous landmarks, including La Sagrada Familia, Camp Nou, Plaza Real and of course, Montjuic – the mountain of the same name that was home to much of the 1992 games. Within Spain, it is well known that the games helped the city to re-generate areas, improve infrastructure and really put it on the map.
