Danville's Blackhawk Museum to features a lecture by Luke Rizzuto on March 31st.

Danville vintage car museum, Blackhawk Museum, preserving automotive history and serving the Easy Bay and Bay areas, will welcome Luke Rizzuto on March 31 at 10 a.m. for a lecture about his upcoming 2013 trip that will complete an around the world drive.

In 1908, six teams from four different nations set out on one of the most amazing auto races imaginable--a drive from New York to Paris during a time of few paved roads and even fewer service stations. The route they followed become legendary, traversing North America, Japan, Siberia and ultimately Europe.

For the 100 anniversary in 2008, a new set of adventurers set out to recreate the North American leg of the original journey, starting in Times Square and ending in San Francisco. Next year, in 2013, the race will recommence for the Japan to Paris portion. Luke Rizzuto was an organizer and participant in the Longest Auto Race Centennial in 2008 and will be on hand on March 31 to discuss all aspects of the journey and to explain the upcoming second leg of the journey in 2013.

Luke Rizzuto will have the 1918 Chevrolet that he drove during the 2008 race at the museum during the lecture.

The goal of the 2013 auto race is to be the very first group of auto drivers in history to literally drive “around the world” as they make their trek along the original George Schuster 1908 Great Race route and beyond.

The Blackhawk Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, was established to ensure that significant automotive treasures, blending art, technology, culture and history, would be exhibited for public enjoyment and educational enrichment.
