“The entrance of emPower! into the market place is a game-changer. It takes an industry that has had only two choices (bifocals or progressive lenses) for years and provides another option for patients who need vision correction."

Beginning in April 2011, Virginia Eye Institute (VEI) locations across central Virginia will begin selling emPower! Lenses, the world’s first electronic focusing eyeglasses. Virginia Eye Institute and PixelOptics, the creator of emPower! Lenses, announced the practice will be the exclusive provider of this innovation in lenses.

EmPower! Is a unique eyewear that changes its focus much faster than the blink of an eye, with no moving parts and without making a sound. The new technology is making waves since its debut at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. Since then, consumers have had an opportunity to learn about emPower! on ABC, CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, PC Magazine and Maximum Tech Magazine. One thing has become clear - a significant percentage of the population over the age of 40 are unhappy with their current eyeglass correction and eagerly await the release of emPower!

Virginia Eye Institute (VEI) provides a wide range of ophthalmology, optometry, optical services and eyeglasses in Virginia. VEI will now be the exclusive provider of emPower! and looks forward to a long relationship with PixelOptics. Mark Johnson, VEI’s Director of Optical Services, says that the significance of emPower! to the optical industry cannot be overstated. “The entrance of emPower! into the market place is a game-changer. It takes an industry that has had only two choices (bifocals or progressive lenses) for years and provides another option for patients who need correction for near vision. Patients who could not adapt to bifocals or progressive lenses but want the convenience of one pair now have that option with emPower!”

PixelOptics launched emPower! at Vision Expo East in New York City. However, Richmond, Virginia will receive its own special preview at Virginia Eye Institute’s “Friends and Family Trunk Show.”
