Chances are that some of us have heard of 'a dollar a task' virtual assistant service. Some iPhone users even swear by Siri, an automated application for virtual assistance. What was not heard of so far is a virtual assistant service on Blackberry Messenger. That too, with a human touch. Now, it’s possible to just whip out a blackberry and send a chat message to a virtual personal assistant at the other end of the planet and get a response within minutes. Any time, any day.
Rent A Smile, a personal and business concierge service that claims to help make life better by more effective time management, has extended its service to Blackberry Messenger. Folks who are looking to create more time for themselves, by offloading all those activities that they really don’t enjoy doing, could so far do so by making use of the virtual assistant service through email, phone, chat and through the Rent A Smile portal. Now, one also has the option of just texting on Blackberry Messenger in the same lingo that everyone has got so used to. Besides the convenience, response from the personal assistant on blackberry messenger is instant.
Explaining the rationale and the need for this service, the CEO of Rent A Smile, Nikunj Mittal, says that “The standard response time of our service for requests sent by email is 4 hours. Though folks with a Blackberry can just as well send in their requests by email, the Messenger chat service is meant for time critical requests that cannot wait.” He cites the case of a member who was in a tearing hurry to get to a critical business meeting on time. While getting off the train, he completely forgot about his bag. In usual circumstances, the member would have panicked and got late for his meeting or be disturbed about it even while in the meeting. However, with Rent A Smile already having access to his itinerary, he just sent a message to his virtual personal assistant to report the lost bag and have it delivered to his hotel. By the time the member finished his meeting and reached the hotel, the bag was waiting for him.
In another instance, a member was about to leave from work to pick up her child from school when she had a sudden and unexpected visit from her most important client. She tried reaching her husband to seek his help but he did not answer his cellphone. Rather than making her inconvenience known to her customer, she then sent a quick message to her virtual personal assistant to track down her husband immediately and request him to pick up their child. The virtual personal assistant called her husband’s office number, had him paged and conveyed the request. Later, the member had her virtual assistant order flowers for her husband to thank him for responding to her call for help at such short notice.
