Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. (ISI), a leading provider of IT infrastructure assessment and optimization software products and services, announces the release of Virtual Desktop Analysis Reports in ISI Snapshot Version 8.0.

While traditional data center assets still consume the majority of the IT budgets and often get most of the attention, there is a growing need to provide the same level of attention to consistent optimization of the "Systems of Engagement", those systems with which users interact directly to do their jobs. In today’s corporate environment, “Virtual Desktops” are standard user desktop environments that are hosted centrally and accessed via client appliances, or in some cases, mobile computing devices such as a tablets or laptops. These systems include Software as a Service (SAAS) applications, cloud-based services, and normal “Front Office” applications. The virtual desktop market is growing rapidly as organizations find providing virtual desktops to their customers is an effective method to reduce overall information technology costs and to provide better IT standardization, support, and control.

ISI developed Virtual Desktop Analysis Reports as part of Snapshot 8.0 to help companies better manage performance delivery and operational costs for Systems of Engagement as well as standard IT infrastructures. The reports can be used to identify all IT hardware and software assets and their usage over time, this aids cost management and technology planning. Having a clear understanding of application variables, including workload, dependencies, and demand over time, as business strategies evolve is critical. This information can help guide companies to either move to the virtual desktop environment, or to deliver the right amount of resources and minimize the disruption of services due to peak user demand. ISI’s advanced analysis capability, ISISCON, also helps size the centralized VDI servers for maximum economy of scale and insures they have the needed applications for the associated users.

Snapshot effectively collects data on current application usage under the various systems of engagement (e.g. Front Office, SAAS applications or cloud-based services), to insure the right resources are available the users and disruption is minimized. Snapshot’s hardware, software, and licensing discovery capabilities support license and cost management by providing accurate real-time usage data. This allows the economies of large scale servers to be applied to this increasing part of the Corporate IT spend.

“Our focus at ISI is working with customers to help them reduce costs, save energy, and better deliver services and products. As the virtual desktop market grows, these new Virtual Desktop Analysis Reports allow our clients to do that,” said Willard (Bill) Cecchi, President, ISI. “By using the Snapshot data, companies are in a position to provide more virtual desktops to their customers which reduces overall corporate costs while providing better IT standardization, support, and control.”

Snapshot’s existing unique features include safe, agentless discovery; reliable operation on physical, virtual and cloud IT infrastructures. It supports multiple hypervisors and has discovery capabilities for an unlimited number of devices (avoiding the inconvenience of duplication error checking and manual integration for multiple analysis runs). It also offers the ability to quickly handle any size configuration and can scan up to 500+ devices/hour. The application delivers detailed and complete information on all IT system components, operating systems, infrastructure interdependences, configurations, network traffic flow patterns, and application workloads and dependencies. In addition, Snapshot provides advanced metrics and feature rich reporting capabilities.
