Attorneys on Virtual Law Direct can now promote flat-fee or special online rate legal services.

High, and unpredictable legal fees...are key factors why people simply don't seek legal advice

Start-up online legal services platform, Virtual Law Direct, has released a ‘Rates & Services’ feature, enabling attorneys on Virtual Law Direct to promote flat-fee and special rate legal services online to Virtual Law Direct users. Virtual Law Direct is an online platform created to give individuals and businesses convenient, direct online access to legal advice and services from independent attorneys.

“High, and unpredictable legal fees, together with a general hesitancy in approaching attorneys in traditional ways, are key factors why people simply don’t seek legal advice”, explains Virtual Law Direct Founder Sam Miller. “ This means a lot of people go without legal advice, and attorneys struggle to find clients. Having easy access to attorneys who provide legal advice or services on flat-fee, or at special, discounted rates can work to address this dual problem.”

Virtual Law Direct already gives online access to attorneys through its website. Connecting with an attorney on the site is through a confidential online channel where the user can, among other features, video chat with the attorney, leave and receive messages, access documents and Virtual Law Direct emails, view the time spent by the attorney on the case, and pay legal bills. Importantly, the site also provides attorneys with the opportunity to review a user before agreeing to take him or her on as a client.

Miller adds, “Virtual Law Direct is also about bringing transparency to legal services. The platform has a feature which allows clients to see what fees their attorneys are writing, when they write them, which is designed to avoid traditional month-end billing surprises. And now with the new ‘Rates & Services’ feature, attorneys have the option on Virtual Law Direct to promote specific services, for instance, company incorporation services, at flat rates, reducing the financial uncertainty inherent in engaging an attorney.”

Virtual Law Direct distinguishes itself from other online legal platforms in that it is not a legal question and answer, or automated document site. Its focus is direct online legal advice through online consultation with licensed attorneys. As Miller further points out, “The key objective here is bringing legal advice and services online. There are a number of automated legal document, question and answer, attorney chat, lead and referral sites out there. In contrast, we are concerned with creating a convenient alternative for people to access legal advice. This we see as being particularly helpful to businesses who don’t have their own in-house legal function. Businesses can benefit from having direct access to approachable attorneys who can deal with their day-to-day business issues. The convenience of having this access online, and at flat-fee or special rates, as the new ‘Rates & Services’ feature enables attorneys to promote, makes this, in our view, a very convenient and attractive concept for business owners and managers.”

Signing up to is free for both attorneys and clients. Attorneys may activate the new 'Rates & Services' feature on their profiles by listing the services and/or hours they wish to promote or discount. Using this new feature is entirely discretionary for each attorney, and attorneys may choose not to offer flat-fees or special online rates.
