The Virtual World Web (VWW), a network of independent user-created virtual worlds, is not only here but it is here for good. Utherverse Digital, the architects behind the Virtual World Web platform, announced that they have reached 50,000 Virtual Worlds created since opening up their tool-set, content libraries and platform in September of 2009.

“The future is virtual. We are now starting to see that with 3D movies, video games and interactive media. The next step in the process is the emergence of the 3D internet.” says Utherverse President, Zak Zarry.

Similar to navigating the 2D, or “flat” web, the VWW uses a 3D web browser that functions both as a search engine and as a directory. On this network, the worlds are linked together making it easy to navigate from one to the other. There is considerable potential for real world communities and businesses to have their own branded presence in a 3D virtual space; one that can be accessed by the 6 million users currently registered to use it.

Entertainment is just one avenue that has skyrocketed in the virtual space with the recent creation of 3DTunes.com, a virtual world that allows anyone to live out their karaoke star dream; and possibly even get discovered as a singing star.

“There is a growing demand for this real-time interaction and the 3D Web provides just that.” says Zarry. This is evident not only in the extensive network that the VWW has managed to accumulate, but also in how quickly they have done so. The Virtual World Web’s global operations have already expanded to Germany (http://www.secretcity.de) and Brazil (http://www.baixocidade.com.br).

Zarry compares Utherverse’s virtual web to a three-dimensional version of the Internet in its early days. He predicts that in five years there will be a singular virtual world or singular network of virtual worlds. “It will replace the web as we know it,” he says. “The 2-D web is going to become a library within the 3-D space.”
