Lucas Systems, Inc., the leading independent provider of voice-directed warehouse applications, was featured in several conference sessions at the IFDA Distribution Solutions Conference on October 24-26 in Forth Worth, Texas. During the event, Lucas introduced Jennifer FoodSelect, the first voice-directed solution designed especially for foodservice and grocery distribution centers. Also at the event, Lucas announced the results of the initial implementation of this new product at Ace Endico, a regional foodservice distributor in New York State. Finally, convenience distributor Eby-Brown presented a case study on their Jennifer VoicePlus voice picking project, including a transition to SAP WM.

Jennifer FoodSelect supports order selection, QC/Audit and truck loading and is tailored to the unique needs of foodservice and grocery DCs. The system supports GS1 data standards for product traceability, and also provides flexible voice- or scan-based data capture for lot numbers, catchweights, or date codes using any industry-standard voice capable mobile computer. This new Jennifer solution inherits key components of the award-winning Jennifer VoicePlus solution that have been pre-configured for food DCs. Since installing Jennifer FoodSelect earlier this year, Ace Endico has increased case picking rates 28 percent, while also reducing picking errors 44 percent compared to their previous hands-free RF scanning system.

During the IFDA conference, Chris Timmons, Executive Vice President of Operations at Eby-Brown presented a case study about the company’s implementation of Jennifer for voice picking and QC at their seven distribution centers. According to Timmons, “Jennifer has delivered better-than-expected gains in picking productivity and accuracy, but the back story at Eby-Brown is how Jennifer made our transition to SAP WM invisible to workers on the warehouse floor.” A copy of the presentation is available on request by emailing Jennifer(at)lucasware(dot)com.
