As a volunteer with The Humanity Exchange, you can rest assured that the volunteering you do will have a meaningful impact.

With volunteer abroad projects in Benin, Cameroon, Colombia, Ghana and Mexico, The Humanity Exchange emphasizes empowerment through volunteering abroad and the lasting benefits it creates for communities. The Humanity Exchange supports local development initiatives by sending volunteers abroad to projects where assistance is truly needed. Volunteers are paired with a project that they can positively impact while also enjoying a rewarding cultural experience. Volunteer placements focus on community development, child-care and assistance opportunities, youth engagement, health and nutrition, microfinance, business, education, and journalism.
In Cameroon, the projects are based in two locations: Douala and Buea. Douala is a large and bustling French speaking city and it is known as the economic heart of Cameroon. In contrast, Buea is a small, more relaxed city that is part of the English speaking region. These two locations offer volunteers diverse experiences, and they are located only 1.5 hours apart. Read more about these locations, or learn how you can study French while volunteering. All of the projects are excellent opportunities for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in international development, or who wants to experience a meaningful volunteer opportunity.
In both Douala and Buea, volunteers live with a local host family, eat local food, and are fully engaged in the local community. This unique setting ensures that volunteers are immersed in a culture and country more than would be possible as a tourist. Our on-site staff provide 24-7 in-country support and a comprehensive orientation, including an introduction to the volunteer’s host family and to the director of the organization they will be assisting.
As a non-traditional destination, Cameroon promises the experience of a lifetime for volunteers and gap-year students who want to hop off the dusty beaten track and get involved with grassroots community projects. Prospective volunteers should search through the range of program options, and apply for projects by filling out a placement advice form. Regardless of the prospective volunteers' background or experience as a traveler, The Humanity Exchange's friendly staff works closely with applicants to find the project that best suits their talents and aspirations, and which contributes to development from the local perspective. Programs range in duration from two weeks to six months. Even short stays have a lasting impact on the volunteer and the community. Applications are currently being accepted for summer starts and will be until May 1.
The Humanity Exchange fosters leadership in international development through volunteer, internship, and language learning programs. The Humanity Exchange's mission is to promote sustainable social and economic development, empower communities and cultivate educated, and compassionate global citizens through responsible travel in non-traditional destinations.
