The award-winning program goes into its ninth year of celebrating Active Aging Week with a new single-day option in addition to the classic week-long program.

WALK! with Aegis Therapies, a wellness event taking place at Aegis locations across the country.

We designed this event as a way to highlight what we encourage our patients and customers to do year-round, to incorporate wellness into daily activities.

Aegis Therapies, a national leader in rehabilitation and wellness services is again celebrating the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), Active Aging Week with WALK! with Aegis Therapies, a wellness event taking place at Aegis locations across the country including skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, independent living facilities, continuing care retirement communities and outpatient locations.

Active Aging Week and WALK! with Aegis Therapies officially takes place September 24 – 30, and showcases the capabilities of older adults as fully participating members of society. WALK! with Aegis Therapies supports this goal by providing programming to patients, residents and citizens of all ages and physical abilities to highlight that physical activity can be a part of any person’s life.

WALK! events scheduled this year range from full week events similar to the program used over the past several years that schedules daily physical activity and a second wellness activity each day focusing on another dimension of overall wellness including social, occupational, intellectual, spiritual, emotional and environmental to single day community events that incorporate a walk with pre and post activities and stations that highlight the dimensions of wellness.

“We designed this event as a way to highlight what we encourage our patients and customers to do year-round, to incorporate wellness into daily activities” said Martha Schram, president of Aegis Therapies. “We make the WALK! available to all our customers, encourage our local leadership to design events that best fit their communities and have opened the program up to the general public to utilize wherever and whenever they can. The idea of WALK! and Active Aging Week is to get people thinking about daily physical activity and overall wellness, and at Aegis, we believe hosting a yearly WALK! celebration is the perfect reminder of that commitment.”

This year, WALK! participants signed up for either a “single day” or “classic” program. All participants were able to access the wellness activities, team leader guides and event support materials such as posters, fliers, promotional templates, timelines and best practices at http://www.walkwithaegis.com. WALK! participants across the country will be sharing their events on social media using the hashtags #activeagingweek and #walkaegis.
