In “Don't Be Afraid of the Dark: Nicky Moonbeam Saves Christmas” (published by Trafford Publishing), the 2012 children’s storybook by Wanda Cavaliere, young readers are guided toward overcoming their fears in an imaginative and vibrantly illustrated tale about dreams and hope.

When Christmas Eve arrives, Nicky Moonbeam, The Man in the Moon, receives an emergency signal from the North Pole. Rudolph has come down with a cold and can’t guide the sleigh. The snow is falling faster and thicker by the minute while the mischievous Dream Stealers are playing practical jokes and pranks on Santa’s elves and reindeer which is delaying take-off. Nicky overcomes his fear of entering his new moon phase and finds a way to have the Dream Stealers and elves work together so the children will not be disappointed on Christmas morning.

An excerpt from “Don't Be Afraid of the Dark”:

“Nicky Moonbeam had two important jobs each night. The first was hugging the children before they drifted into dreamland. He loved to stretch his long, moonbeam arms around the Earth to give each child a hug. Nicky’s second job was being the Big Night-Light in the sky so children wouldn’t be afraid of the dark.”

“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” communicates a valuable message about working together. “It is a heartwarming story with an important lesson children can take to heart,” explains Cavaliere. “It is about coming together to achieve something for the greater good and being happy about their choice.”
