Maryland-based WasteStrategies, an environmental waste management company, partnered with the Annapolis Green at the Maryland Seafood Festival and other local events to increase recycling and reduce landfill waste.

In today’s world it’s not enough to simply produce a good product or service; you are also judged by consumers on how your activities impact the environment.

Environmental waste management company, WasteStrategies LLC, announced the results of their 2011 recycling and waste management work with the Maryland Seafood Festival, Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA) Race Week, Hospice Cup Regatta, and Eastport Yacht Club Boaters Bash. Each recent event achieved at least 50% recycling rate and significant waste reduction due in part to WasteStrategies’ involvement.

Long-time local public engagement organization, Annapolis Green, partnered with WasteStrategies to form the Annapolis Green Team. Together, the organizations work to conduct recycling activities, supply trash/recycle bin “eco stations,” and promote successful recycling campaigns at prominent events such as regatta parties and large festivals in the Annapolis area.
Results from the recent local events include 78% recycle rate and 28% waste reduction at the CBYRA Regatta; 50% recycle rate and 50% waste reduction at the Maryland Seafood Festival; 50% recycle rate and 50% waste reduction at the Hospice Cup Regatta; and 50% recycle rate and 50% waste reduction at the Eastport Yacht Club Boaters Bash.

The ratio of recycling to trash was unprecedented, according to event representatives. “This shows that people will do the right thing if it’s made clear and easy for them,” said Elvia Thompson, co-founder of Annapolis Green.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Annapolis Green on this,” said John Nicklin, Managing Member of WasteStrategies. “In today’s world it’s not enough to simply produce a good product or service; you are also judged by consumers on how your activities impact the environment. We’re happy to be doing our part right here in our home town.”
