Destination design firm hires global expert in hospitality and tourism development

Muriel’s global reputation and expertise in development strategy will reinforce and enhance WATG’s reputation as the world’s leading hospitality design firm.

WATG president and CEO Mike Seyle announced the expansion of the firm’s strategic consulting services and the addition of Muriel Muirden as vice president of strategy.

In her new role, Muriel will be offering WATG clients pre-development strategic advice and support. She also will be advising the firm’s leaders on tourism trends and market opportunities and conducting proprietary research on evolving hospitality products and market dynamics.

Based in London, Muriel will partner with Raj Chandnani, her counterpart in the U.S., who is also responsible for providing strategic consulting services to WATG clients.

Originally from a hotel operations and resort development background, Muriel has 25 years of tourism development experience around the world. Previously, as managing director at Economics Research Associates (ERA) in Europe and the Middle East and most recently as global leader of the rebranded AECOM Economics -- she developed a global resort and tourism practice. Her particular areas of expertise are in the fields of pre-development strategy and concept evaluation for major tourism, hotel and resort real estate enterprises. Clients have included government organisations, international hotel operators, property development companies, financial institutions and sovereign wealth funds.

Born in London, brought up in the Far East and educated in Scotland, Muriel writes and speaks regularly on trends and developments in the international hospitality market and has lectured at Harvard University on economic master planning for large land-use projects. She founded and co-chaired ULI’s European Hotel and Resorts Council.
