Weatherwise is a real testament to our creativity, said Local Wisdom Vice President, Shawn Venkat. The focus in technology right now is on apps. We wanted to showcase our expertise beyond the web.

Weatherwise, a weather app designed and developed by Local Wisdom, is available today for the Apple iPhone and Android. Users receive the current weather and five-day forecast for any city in North America through the app’s stylish platform and inventive features, sans clip art and overused weather icons.

Rated a "new and noteworthy" weather app by Apple, Weatherwise gives iPhone and Android users weather with personality through its distinct personas and landscape animations that change based on wind speed, particle systems, and day, night, sunrise and sunset cycles.

“Weatherwise is real testament to our creativity,” said Local Wisdom Vice President, Shawn Venkat. “The focus in technology right now is on apps. We wanted to showcase our expertise beyond the web. Weatherwise is imaginative and clever; there is no other weather app like it.”

The Weatherwise app is available for free and comes installed with the Zen Tree theme, a tranquil bonsai tree, which displays precipitation such as winter weather through snowy branches and windy conditions through a swaying lantern. Other creative themes are available for $0.99 and include a robot that displays wind speed through smoke animations billowing from his back or animated persons, such as an older woman clad with pearls, indicating icy conditions.

“The concept of themes is our revenue and crowd sourcing mechanism,” said Creative Director, RJay Haluko. “Designers can submit their own designed theme to make some income, similar to the promotional tactics of companies like Threadless t-shirts.”

The app design process was led by Tim Jaeger, Sr. Information Architect and programmed by interns from The College of New Jersey including Patrick Pierson, Chris Smith and Ryan Bailey. RJay Haluko served as Creative Director of the app. The app is currently a finalist in several categories for the Art Directors Club of New Jersey Awards including best mobile app, best website and best illustration.
