Weddings are expensive…and it can create such a hardship for young couples and their families

Wedding-Supplies.com announces that it will continue its “Wedding Favors Stimulus Plan,” which was originally launched earlier in June on the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Coined as “Vicki Offers Wedding Supplies” (VOWS), the program involves the donation of free custom wedding favors to couples who have been affected by the economic downturn.

“Weddings are expensive…and it can create such a hardship for young couples and their families,” says Vicki Lee, general manager of Wedding-Supplies.com. The program began after the online wedding store manager had a phone conversation with a customer who was forced to cancel her dream wedding due to financial difficulties. “She was sobbing, and it really hit home for me,” says Lee.

VOWS gives couples the chance to receive various custom wedding supplies, such as printed shot glasses, personalized fortune cookies, flashing heart buttons and other keepsakes. Wedding-Supplies.com will then print the newlywed’s names on the gifts and ship them to the customer free of charge.

Lee believes the wedding industry gives an accurate reflection of the true state of the economy. Many couples have been forced to downsize their weddings or postpone them altogether. In fact, when the recession hit bottom in 2008, there were 30,000 less weddings than the year before. The entire wedding industry in general has experienced a sharp decline in revenues. For example, stocks of wedding-related companies such as JLM Couture, Inc (JLMC) and Harry Winston Diamonds (HWD) are down 60% from early 2007 levels.

Lee hopes that VOWS will help change some of these statistics, and encourages soon-to-be-newlyweds to sign up for the donation program. “We are proud to offer our own version of a stimulus plan. Except this one isn’t for bankers; this one goes to people who actually deserve it,” explains Lee.

Couples wishing to sign up for the VOWS wedding favors giveaway can visit the company’s website and click on the “sign-up” link located on the homepage.
