It's very rewarding to help people who are determined to get their health on track and lose weight
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 03, 2011
One step at a time. That's how you achieve long-term goals like radical weight loss: one healthy meal, one trip to the gym, one morning walk at a time. The steps add up to a voyage; enough steps in the right direction, and you arrive at your destination. Successful weight-loss surgery patients know the mantra well, having applied it to their own lives as they retake control of their health.
Some of the patients of L.A. Bariatrics celebrated their success by running 13.1 miles in the Rock ’N’ Roll Half-Marathon. One step at a time, they made their way to the finish line, and then they crossed it.
Dr. Jeremy Korman, the medical director and bariatric surgeon at LA Bariatrics, participated in the half-marathon as well.
"It's very rewarding to help people who are determined to get their health on track and lose weight," Dr. Korman said. "And it's a privilege to be able to share this huge accomplishment with some of them, to run alongside them. To go from morbid obesity to running 13.1 miles is very impressive, and I am very proud of each of these patients."
L.A. Bariatrics is the weight-loss surgery practice at Marina Del Rey Hospital. Its patients come from around the Southland, and its physicians are recognized for their expertise, their eagerness to promote good health to the Los Angeles public, and their excellent patient care.
“It was an honor to complete this run alongside my friends and the person who made it possible, Dr. Korman” said Hua Her, a Lap-Band patient who has lost over 90 pounds. “I’ve been running now for over a year and it’s a dream come true to share this run with the L.A. Bariatrics staff who have been instrumental in my weight loss journey.”
The event took place on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 30. Runners began the course at 7:30 a.m., and throughout the sunny, warm day, they enjoyed the scenery of downtown Los Angeles as well as a variety of musical acts. The money raised benefits the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
