Wells Fargo is hosting its programs to celebrate annual Get Smart About Credit Day, which falls on October 18th. CBS Miami reported that Wells Fargo recently announced that it will be launching two credit-education initiatives in support of annual Get Smart About Credit Day. Wells Fargo will first be offering free credit reports to its customers for the entire month of October, and up until November 15th. Consumers who bank with Wells Fargo will receive complimentary access to both their credit score and report, a perk that typically would cost customers a one-time flat fee, or require a commitment of ongoing monthly reports for an accompanying monthly fee.

The above-mentioned CBS Miami article reports that the second initiative being launched by Wells Fargo is a thirty-day nation-wide campaign involving educating consumers about the importance of credit, and teaching ways to use it wisely through a community outreach approach. Reportedly Wells Fargo has set the goal of volunteering 60,000 hours total towards this campaign. Its bankers and team members will be reaching out to young consumers throughout the month of October to teach them about the importance of managing their credit wisely.

National Get Smart About Credit Day is national campaign put on by the American Bankers Association (ABA). According to the ABA website, the Get Smart About Credit campaign involves volunteer bankers donating their time and resources to young people in order to help raise awareness and education about the value of credit and ways to use it responsibly. In 2011, a reported 3,300 bankers schooled over 122,000 young adults on credit education matters in correspondence with Get Smart About Credit Day. The ABA reports that this year will be the 10th anniversary for the campaign, and volunteer bankers will be using the month of October to connect with consumers and provide lessons in credit education.
