Couples who have met "under the clock" are encouraged to share their story by submitting a brief essay (no more than 350 words) and a photo of themselves to The Westin St. Francis by October 31, 2007. The winning couple, chosen by a panel of judges on November 5, will be awarded with a public vow renewal ceremony under the clock on November 15, followed by a lavish reception in a signature suite complete with a champagne toast, gourmet hors d'oeuvres, "clocktails" and a wedding cake created by Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Francios Houdre. The winning couple will also receive a complimentary three-night stay in a honeymoon suite at The Westin St. Francis, airfare to San Francisco (if needed), spa treatments for two, and breakfast and dinner for two in the historic Oak Room. Built in 1856, the Great Magneta Clock made an arduous steamer trip from Europe around Cape Horn in 1907, and was officially dedicated to The Westin St. Francis on November 30, 1907. This Viennese timepiece was the first master clock introduced to the West, and was installed in its place of honor in the grand lobby of The Westin St. Francis following the hotel's recovery from The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.
