Ranked by Forbes in 2008 as the 5th best outdoor city and pegged by New York University’s Washington Square News as a top city for people in their twenties, Tampa is definitely becoming increasingly popular both to people who love to travel and to those who are looking to settle down somewhere nice. This gamma world city has plenty going on to keep people interested and occupied, hence the creation of wheretogointampa.com. Tampa resident of almost 40 years Tim Harness recently launched the website to be a resource both for locals and for visitors. “It's to give people an idea of the best places to go in town on a certain night of the week. I get asked all the time, ‘What’s a good (_____)to go to tonight?’ so the site will be more than just the regular business directory of all the places in town; it will feature certain places I find are best. It will not just be my favorites though; it will be a collection of the most popular deemed by the majority of people in Tampa. It’s going to answer the question everyone has when making plans for the evening and that is: ‘Where is there to go tonight for good atmosphere, drinks, dinner, etc.?’ After living in a town for your whole life, you start to get a good grasp on what is good and on what night,” Harness explains.

The website features pages on nightlife, happy hours, events, restaurants and things to do in Tampa. The nightlife page lists the best night spots in the city and categorizes these places into their distinct area, such as South Tampa and Channelside. The other pages do the same thing, featuring the best happy hours, restaurants, etc. and cross-referencing based on location. The restaurants page also sorts the selection into the types of dining the various establishments offer, while the events page offers not only a calendar to keep users up-to-date , but detailed descriptions , addresses, directions, and more about each event going on in the city. “The site’s main areas of interest are nightlife, happy hours, events and restaurants, but it will have much more. The events calendar is also featured on the homepage and informs visitors of any big events in the area. So if you are looking for a quick and easy answer to the question of what is going on tonight, this weekend, or this year, we will have it for you,” Harness shares.

Harness and his team strive to find out all the events, specials, parties, dining deals, etc. available. They felt that such a user-friendly yet comprehensive service has not been provided by any other site online. “The few big competitors are countrywide and not local, so they really aren't that in touch with what's really going on here locally,” points out Harness.

Oftentimes, many of the other resources cannot be counted on to provide objective recommendations about where to go in Tampa. “They commercialize their content so it's whoever pays the most for feature listing, and not what really helps people find best place to go to. Their sites are way too busy and really hard to find your way around.”Harness’ own angle is to keep the site simple and easy to navigate. It will publish honest opinions on the best places in town with laid-out, easy-to-understand directions. “It will have true reviews from me personally visiting each place, not a fake written-up one from the establishment itself,” Harness avers.

Plans for wheretogointampa.com include making it mobile-ready to make the site very easy to quickly navigate to find the top 5 places for each of the mentioned 4 areas of interest, and perhaps even more eventually. In the meantime, the site is up and ready to be the number one resource for what’s hot in Tampa.
