From shoes and contact lenses to gourmet foods and home electronics people are buying online. But, with all the things consumers purchase on the Internet, replacement windows has never been one of them—until now. Zen Windows is selling replacement windows to 80 percent of its customers on the Web.

“We’ve found that the best way to sell our product is to respect our customers, do good work, and provide real value,” said Dan Wolt, owner of Zen Windows. “And just as important - placing a high value on a customer’s time.”

Zen Windows has been redefining the replacement window and door business for more than two decades. Zen Windows has never employed sales people. Zen customers have always dealt directly with the owner, Dan Wolt. Now, from one customer to the next Zen is selling its products on its reputation alone.
“I’ve never believed in the traditional, high-pressure sale,” Wolt said. “But I never expected Zen would become a largely online business.”

New customers browse product profiles, learn industry best practices, and request quotes in less than five minutes all on the company’s website. When they’re ready to purchase their windows, Wolt sends out a measurement specialist along with product samples requested by the customer.

Even with so much of the process happening online, Wolt remains focused on personal attention to each customer.

“They may make their initial decision to work with us online, but the reason Zen is able to do business this way is because of our reputation among existing and past customers,” Wolt said.

Zen customers are relieved at the speed at which communication happens. People looking to replace their windows gain a sense of relief knowing that they no longer have to spend hours meeting with salespeople.

“Our customers are savvy buyers,” Wolt said. “They demand a better experience and Zen can provide that.”
