I always notice when someone is driving down the road with a severely cracked windshield. It's a safety concern, beyond the visual impairment, that not very many people are aware of. I wish they were as worried about themselves as I always am.

Auto Glass Guru urges consumers to remember that their windshield provides 50% of the rollover strength of their vehicle. Too many consumers see windshield damage as irrelevant to the function of their vehicle; a mere cosmetic issue that can be pushed to the backburner. In reality the rollover strength of the vehicle is severely depleted by a damaged windshield.
The US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration released data on the number of rollovers occurring per year and the numbers indicate that rollovers are a problem on the rise. Total rollovers reflected in the statistics were:
- In the year 2000: 9,873 fatal rollover accidents
- In the year 2001: 10,157 fatal rollover accidents
- In the year 2002: 10,666 fatal rollover accidents
Keep in mind that this data only reflects the rollover accidents that resulted in fatalities, not injuries.
