Sonoma’s Kastania Vineyard Boutique Winery Introduces 2009 Pinot Noir with High Ratings

The 2009 Kastania Sonoma Coast Estate Proprietor’s Reserve offers a luscious nose of earthy ripe cherry and chocolate.

Newly released 2009 Pinot Noirs added to the premier Sonoma boutique winery Kastania Vineyard’s catalog on May 16, 2012 include the Sonoma Coast Estate Proprietor’s Reserve, the Pinot Noir Estate Jaden & Keira’s Cuvee, and the Proprietor’s Blend.

“The 2009 Kastania Sonoma Coast Estate Proprietor’s Reserve offers a luscious nose of earthy ripe cherry and chocolate. Intense flavors of ripe plum and Bing cherry are interspersed with cedar, sassafras and tea leaves. Complex tannins combined with fresh fruit and a bright acidity makes this wine a great candidate for aging,” said Hoot Smith of Kastania Vineyard. “This wine received a high 90 point rating from Wine Spectator magazine.”

“Our 2009 Kastania Pinot Noir Proprietor’s Blend is currently our bestseller,” said Hoot.

“Comprised of 62% Cabernet Franc and 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has a bright jammy blackberry nose with hints of violets and dusty oak. Rich vibrant fruity flavors of black cherry and cassis are layered with subtle notes of licorice, cola and cedar. Silky sweet tannins add more dimension and interest to this complex blend that is worthy of cellaring at least 5-10 years."

Hoot added, “Our 2009 Kastania Pinot Noir Estate Jaden & Keira’s Cuvee opens with spicy aromatic notes of nutmeg, allspice and fresh cranberries. Bright flavors of dark stone fruits and berry are layered with chocolate, cola and subtle tannins. Several layers of flavor and tannins create a wine that is very approachable now but will continue to evolve and become even more complex in 5-10 years.”

Kastania Vineyards invites patrons to visit their wine tasting room at Kastania Vineyard, open Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They are also available for tours and tastings by appointment Monday through Friday and invite customers to bring a lunch and enjoy their wines and the views of the Petaluma River.
