New York, NY (PRWEB) November 29, 2012
BLB released its list of best winter activities in New York City this week following the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is generally seen as the kickoff to the winter season in NYC, and the subsequent opening of several popular ice rinks around the city.
With Thanksgiving meals to burn off many New Yorkers may be looking for a fun way to get active in the coming weeks while others may simply want to enjoy the beauty of the city by taking part in outdoor activities, and what better way than the cities many outdoor rinks. From the quintessential Christmas atmosphere of Rockefeller Center to Abe Start Rink, which just reopened for the first time since Super-storm Sandy, there are many choices around the city for those looking to take a spin on the ice.
BLB's list of best winter activities is dominated by the many outdoor rinks around NYC and includes the classics such as Rockefeller Center and Wollman Rink at Central Park. Also topping the list is The Standard Ice Rink in the Meatpacking District, which lends itself to a full day, and night, of activities due to it's proximity to many popular restaurants and nightclubs.
Rockefeller Center is a world-famous rink and features a 45,000-light 80-foot Christmas tree. The Meatpacking District was reborn in the 1990s when high end boutiques, restaurants and nightclubs started to call the area home. One of the first, and most popular, nightclubs to enter the district was Tenjune, co-owned by Mark Birnbaum. Many establishments in the Meatpacking District feature A-list celebrity-filled guest lists and have become common celebrity haunts over the years.
With winter quickly approaching many outdoor rinks in New York City are already filled with people looking to enjoy the great outdoors. With a choice in nearly every neighborhood skaters can choose from the classic Christmas experience to the free skate, or anything in between.
