The new Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation certification process provides a compass for injured workers seeking a qualified lawyer to handle their case.
Harrisburg, PA (PRWEB) June 24, 2013
Steven R. Tregea of the Harrisburg-based personal injury law firm Metzger Wickersham recently became certified as a specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law by the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Section on Workers’ Compensation Law as authorized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Workers’ compensation certification is the first certification offered by the PA state bar in any law specialty, and Harrisburg workers’ compensation attorney Tregea is among the first group of Pennsylvania lawyers to earn this distinction.
In order to become certified as a workers’ compensation specialist, attorneys must pass a rigorous screening to display their skill, expertise and years of experience in the practice of workers’ compensation law. An attorney must establish through documentation that he or she has been actively engaged in the practice of law for a minimum of five years and devotes at least 50 percent of his or her practice to the specialty field of workers’ compensation.
Upon meeting these initial screening requirements, attorneys are then required to pass a challenging written exam to demonstrate their knowledge on a wide range of PA workers’ comp topics.
“The application process to take the exam makes it clear from the outset that the certification is for those lawyers who have expertise in the workers’ compensation field,” said John Bagnato, chair of the Certification Committee, in a May 20 Pennsylvania Bar Association press release.
Steven Tregea has been practicing workers’ compensation in Pennsylvania for 16 years and has successfully demonstrated the required level of skill and expertise necessary to become certified in workers’ compensation law. He has extensive experience in all facets of workers’ compensation litigation, including petitions, depositions, and hearings.
“The new Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation certification process provides a compass for injured workers seeking a qualified lawyer to handle their case,” Tregea said. “Injured workers can now identify which PA lawyers possess the knowledge and expertise necessary to effectively represent their best interests.” Only 149 lawyers in the state of Pennsylvania are currently certified in workers’ compensation law.
