Our beautiful Spinescape and inviting design draw readers in

Readers everywhere have the chance to put their mark on one of the world's most revered reference sources by selecting the Spinescape image used for The World Book Encyclopedia 2010.

Now through April 3, people can cast their vote in World Book's You Be the Judge event, being held online at The Spinescape is World Book's trademarked method of printing a unique image across the spine of the 22-volume encyclopedia set.

"Our beautiful Spinescape and inviting design draw readers in," said Patti Ginnis, chief marketing officer of World Book "Once there, they find what they need because our unique editorial style and aggressive updating program assure that articles are clear, current, easy to understand, and well-illustrated."

For the 2010 set, individuals from around the world can vote for their favorite from among four rich images designed to encourage readers to learn and explore more about their world:

  • Wonders of the Human Body: highlighting the incredible abilities of the human body to do things no machine can.
  • Precious Gems: showcasing the beauty, durability, and value of Earth's rare treasures.
  • Portraits of Greatness: recognizing courageous individuals that have affected human thought and deed throughout the ages.
  • Polar Landscape: celebrating the fragile, majestic splendor of one of the most hauntingly beautiful places on Earth.

Since 1999, World Book has been offering readers a choice between the classic black binding and the imagery of the Spinescape. Starting in 2007, readers were asked to choose the design they liked best for the Spinescape version. Since then, hundreds of thousands of votes have been cast to choose the Spinescape art.
