“As the regulatory climate has evolved over the years, we have adapted the Boot Camp to meet the most urgent compliance needs,” states Heather Wilson

The 20th Hospice Regulatory Boot Camp will take place at the Omni Chicago Hotel on June 21-22, 2010. The Hospice Regulatory Boot Camp is an intensive educational event that focuses exclusively on what hospices need to know and do to comply with regulations.
The first Hospice Regulatory Boot Camp was held at the Weatherbee offices in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts in May 2006. Since then, more than 2,200 hospice professionals, CMS and State surveyors, and OIG auditors have attended Weatherbee Boot Camps. During 2007 and 2008, the Hospice Regulatory Boot Camp focused specifically on helping hospices prepare for the new Medicare Conditions of Participation. In 2009, Weatherbee added the RAC/ADR Boot Camp to address the challenges hospices have with managing ADRs, preparing for increased scrutiny, and dealing with the Medicare appeals process.
“As the regulatory climate has evolved over the years, we have adapted the Boot Camp to meet the most urgent compliance needs,” states Heather Wilson, one of the principals of Weatherbee and a Boot Camp faculty member. “With the unprecedented level of scrutiny hospices are now experiencing, the Boot Camps are more important and helpful than ever,” she adds. To address this increased scrutiny, an optional third day – “Managing Hospice Scrutiny” – has been added to the upcoming Boot Camp in Chicago to further focus on managing ADR activity and audits from MACs, RACs, MICs and ZPICs.
“The Boot Camps provide hospice personnel with an opportunity to truly drill down into the clinical and operational implications associated with regulatory non-compliance,” says Joy Barry, a principal of Weatherbee and Boot Camp faculty member. “The Boot Camp enables us to take the challenges we see hospices struggling with and present strategies and solutions to help hospices utilize their financial and human resources more effectively and efficiently,” she adds.
