“We continue to hear from patients who suffered metallosis, early implant failure and other issues, allegedly due to Wright Conserve hip implants. We look forward to progress being made in this litigation in the coming year,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm that represents the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently investigating lawsuits involving Wright Conserve hip implants, as well as Wright Profemur hip replacements.
Wright Hip Implant Lawsuits
The Wright Conserve multidistrict litigation pending in the Northern District of Georgia was established by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on February 8, 2012. The litigation involves claims that certain hip replacement devices manufactured by Wright Medical Technology, Inc. were defectively designed and caused personal injury to plaintiffs. The specific devices at issue include Wright’s Conserve Total Hip Implant System, Conserve Total A-Class Advanced Metal Hip Implant System, and the Conserve Resurfacing System.
Bernstein Liebhard LLP is also investigating claims involving the Wright Profemur hip replacement system. On September 4, 2012, the Honorable William J. Duffey, Jr., who is overseeing the federal Wright Conserve hip litigation in Georgia, issued a discovery order directing Wright Medical to produce certain documents pertaining to its Profemur hip neck stems after plaintiffs argued that the Profemur neck stem was an integral part of the flawed design for the Wright Conserve hip replacement system. **
In an August 2012 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Wright Medical conceded that Stryker’s July 2012 recall of Rejuvenate Modular and ABG II modular neck hip stems could impact sales of its Profemur hip replacement products. The Stryker hip replacement components were recalled due to reports of fretting and corrosion at the modular neck stem. “Although Stryker's recalled modular hip stems differ in design and material from our Profemur modular neck hip stems, there is a risk that Stryker's recall and the resultant publicity could negatively impact sales of modular neck systems of other manufacturers, including our Profemur system, even if the issues cited by Stryker are unique to Stryker products,” Wright said in its SEC filing.***
