65% of sportsmen and women are wearing the wrong shoes for their chosen sport according to online sports and activity shoe retailer Fitness Footwear.

Many people don't realise that different activities require different footwear and tend to buy one pair of generic trainers which are worn for every activity they participate in. We are trying to make people aware that they need to wear different sports shoes depending on what activity they are doing to protect their feet and avoid sports-related injuries.

Sports enthusiasts urged to wear sports-specific shoes to avoid injury

65% of sportsmen and women are wearing the wrong shoes for their chosen sport according to online sports and activity shoe retailer Fitness Footwear.

21% of the population participate in sport 3 times a week and by wearing the same generic pair of sports shoes for a variety of different pursuits, individuals risk injury and can hamper their performance.

Ill-fitting sports shoes can cause a multitude of problems such as shin splints and traumatised toes as well as serious back and knee pain and it is important that the right shoes are worn for each activity.

As the Olympics kick off in Beijing, athletes everywhere are being urged to wear sports-specific     footwear for any activity undertaken more than three times a week. For example, running shoes must provide cushioning to the balls of the feet and have a hardwearing outsole, whereas aerobics shoes need to offer superior ankle support to avoid injury when making sudden side-to-side movements.

With this in mind, sports shoes should always be carefully chosen to ensure that the correct size and style is bought for their intended use.
