Our Firm has heard from a number of Xarelto patients who allegedly suffered serious internal bleeding and other dangerous complications related to its use.

Plaintiffs in six Xarelto lawsuits (http://www.xareltolawsuitcenter.com) have asked the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) to consolidate all pending and future federally-filed product liability claims involving the blood thinner in a single proceeding, and to transfer the docket to the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois for coordinate pretrial proceedings, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. In a petition filed with the Panel on October 9th, the plaintiffs point out that more than a dozen claims have been filed in U.S. courts that allege use of Xarelto caused patients to suffer uncontrollable internal bleeding and related side effects. The plaintiffs further assert that thousands of similar filings are likely in the near future, as Xarelto has been implicated in more than 1,000 adverse event reports made to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), many of which detail the same types of injuries. “Our Firm has heard from a number of Xarelto patients who allegedly suffered serious internal bleeding and other dangerous complications related to its use. The litigation surrounding this medication is likely to be large, and may warrant the type of consolidated proceeding being sought by these plaintiffs,” said Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

Xarelto Complications
Xarelto was launched in the U.S. in 2011, and is now approved to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation; as a treatment for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; and to prevent deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery. * According to court documents, the medication was marketed as an improvement over warfarin, a blood thinner that has been in use for decades. However, while warfarin bleeding can be stopped via the administration of vitamin K, there is currently no approved antidote to reverse internal hemorrhaging that can sometimes occur with Xarelto.

Among other things, the petition filed with the JPML points out that the FDA had received 2,081 reports of Xarelto complications by the end of Fiscal Year 2012, including 151 that resulted in death. By contrast, only 56 warfarin-related deaths were reported to the agency during the same time period. Just this past May, the Institute of Safe Medicine Practices (ISMP) revealed that the FDA had received a total of 680 Xarelto adverse event reports in the first quarter of 2013. For the first time, reports of complications associated with the medication outpaced those associated with Pradaxa, another blood thinner in the same class, according to the ISMP.**

Individuals who were allegedly harmed by Xarelto may be entitled to compensation. To learn more about filing a Xarelto lawsuit, please visit Bernstein Liebhard LLPs website, or call 800-511-5092 to schedule a free, no obligation case review.
