The nationwide law firm of Bernstein Liebhard LLP is now actively filing Xarelto lawsuits (http://www.xareltolawsuit2015.com/) on behalf of individuals who were allegedly harmed by the blood-thinning medication. On November 5, 2014, the Firm filed a Xarelto claim in U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey, on behalf of a California woman who allegedly suffered a severe gastrointestinal bleed in November 2012, shortly after she began taking the blood thinner for atrial fibrillation. The complaint accuses the drug’s manufacturers of failing to provide adequate warnings to patients and the medical community about the risks associated with Xarelto. (Case No. 3:14-cv-07016-FLW-DEA)

“This complaint joins at least 30 other Xarelto lawsuits currently pending in U.S. courts that put forth similar claims. Our Firm continues to hear from patients who were allegedly injured by this medication, and we expect that the Xarelto litigation will continue to grow in the future,” said Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering Xarelto case reviews to people who allegedly suffered serious injuries from the blood thinner, including uncontrollable bleeding, strokes, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

Xarelto Lawsuit Allegations

Xarelto was approved for sale in the U.S. in 2011, and is now indicated to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation; as a treatment for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; and to prevent deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery.* Court documents indicate that more than 30 product liability claims have been filed in U.S. courts against the drug’s manufacturers, all of which allege Xarelto caused patients to suffer serious and life-threatening complications, including uncontrollable internal bleeding. In October, a number of Xarelto lawsuit plaintiffs petitioned the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate all federally-filed cases involving similar allegations before a single judge in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois. The Panel is scheduled to hear Oral Arguments on the matter on December 4th. (In Re: Xarelto Products Liability Litigation, No. 2592)

Like other cases involving the drug, the Xarelto lawsuit filed by Bernstein Liebhard LLP claims that its manufacturers rushed the medication to market, and wrongly positioned it as a superior alternative to warfarin, a blood thinner that has been in use for decades. Among other things, the complaint points out that by June 30, 2012, Xarelto had been implicated in more than 1,000 adverse event reports made to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, including 65 fatalities. Of the Xarelto adverse events that involved internal bleeding, 8% resulted in death, which was approximately twofold the risk of a hemorrhage-related death with warfarin. While no reversal agent has been approved for Xarelto bleeding, hemorrhaging associated with warfarin can be stopped via the administration of vitamin K.

Xarelto patients who allegedly suffered life-threatening episodes of internal bleeding or other injuries due to their use of Xarelto may be entitled to take legal action against the manufacturers of the drug.
