Despite my challenges, I am the first in my family to make it to college and now will continue my dream of being a pediatric nurse.

Youth Connection Charter School Virtual High School, an innovative blended charter school in Chicago designed to get struggling students on the path to success, commemorated the 2013 graduating class during a ceremony on June 17 at Malcolm X College of Chicago. Celebrating its fourth graduating class, YCCS Virtual High School honored more than 85 high school graduates, many of which were prior high school drop outs or struggling students.

Recent YCCS Virtual High School graduate, Abby Herrera was diagnosed with a medical condition that caused her to struggle academically in her previous school setting.
“During my senior year I was told that I was too far behind and would have to repeat – my dreams had to be put on hold.” Abby explains. “I searched endlessly for a new school that would fit my needs and am happy to say I found my second chance at YCCS Virtual High School. Despite my challenges, I am the first in my family to make it to college and now will continue my dream of being a pediatric nurse.”

On behalf of all of us at YCCS Virtual High School we congratulate our graduates for their hard work, perseverance and success.”
