National Retail Federation’s annual event held this January 2011 in New York, is always an important gathering point for merchants: they can find the best solution related to their point-of-sale. Because attendance is high, this show enables merchants to pick-up the very best solution among various different players. YESpay decided this year to visit NRF to meet with partners and merchants.

Accepting card payments in an integrated fashion has been one of the biggest challenge merchants have been facing at their point-of-sale. No wonder why it was one of the hottest topics at NRF this year! But this challenge should not be a daunting task, as merchants have the choice to overcome this burden using a unique hosted payment solution like YESpay.

Firstly, merchants no longer want to use a standalone terminal and its array of inconvenience. Errors in keying definitely raise high reconciliation costs and renting a dial-up line dedicated to each standalone terminal is another cost merchants want to get rid of. More generally, standalone terminals are now out-of-date because of their poor range of service. What about tokenization for recurring billing, real-time reporting portal etc.? For these reasons, merchants wish to enable their point-of-sale to accept integrated card payments. Hence merchants turn to their point-of-sale providers, then turning to service providers like YESpay. Indeed, point-of-sale providers find it difficult, costly and lengthy to certify an integrated solution with various acquirers chosen by various merchants.

In addition, liability shift for Canadian EMV debit card payments is coming into effect as of March 31st. Merchants are struggling to be EMV-compliant by this threatening deadline. The only way merchants can achieve this is, with the help of their point-of-sale provider, by using a unique outsourced payment solution such as YESpay’s EMBOSS service, fully PCI-DSS certified. Indeed, because EMBOSS service is fully pre-certified with various card acquirers, and because the integration of YESpay payment software with point-of-sale software is completed in a matter of weeks, it is the quickest route to market to meet those merchants’ requirements seamlessly.

The beauty of shows like NRF is that it enables merchants to liaise with various service providers, and pick-up the most effective and competitive. As Harry Morge, National Sales Manager at YESpay explains: “NRF is one of those shows that service providers like YESpay must visit. I can hear what merchants and point-of-sale vendors have to say and understand their bespoke payment needs. And because we are experts in fully hosted payment solution, we can dialog with merchants and point-of sale companies around mitigating their PCI-DSS burden, lowering overall costs through our low monthly service fee, and helping them beat the threatening EMV liability shift deadline of March 31st! YESpay is unique as a cross-border integrated payment solution, and this is why this show was so successful for us.”

As the NRF growing attendance highlights, merchants are now eager to move ahead quickly towards integrated payment solutions, and YESpay is in line with this trend: merchants are live in both Canada and the USA with ChasePaymentech and First Data Merchant Service.
