Military service is a calling, a sacrifice and a discipline

New Dawn Yoga knows that we are free to celebrate the holiday season because of the service that veterans have provided through their military career. The San Francisco yoga therapy center wishes to thank veterans by offering them a gift throughout the month of December.

All veterans are eligible to receive a 45-minute personal yoga lesson during the final month of the year in their San Francisco, Pacifica and New York studios. This represents a special collaboration with the Art of Breathing in New York City.

“Military service is a calling, a sacrifice and a discipline,” says Dawn Summers of New Dawn Yoga. “Veterans can become great yogis from their training since they have cultivated discipline and an attitude of service. Now they can leverage these skills and discover the power of yoga as a support for their well-being and peace of mind in civilian life.”

Yoga can help veterans develop focus, and link the body and mind towards a chosen goal. It also provides active tools to relieve stress and calm the nervous system.

“One of the foundational texts for yoga uses the metaphor of a warrior in battle to describe the principles of yoga and an illumined life,” relates Summers. “The warrior is counseled by an agent of God, who says: ‘It does not become you to yield to this weakness. Arise with a brave heart and destroy the enemy. The text continues with sage advice on how to master oneself first and foremost and that the true enemy resides in our own mind.”

Two great teachers, Dawn Summers and Andy Sugerman, are offering their talents in recognition and appreciation to veterans for their service to our country.

Veterans are invited to contact them for a complimentary private lesson to see what yoga can do for them.
