One of yoga’s hottest stars is going digital.
“YogaVibes.com is making yoga available on a whole new level,” said Gates. “I chose to work with YogaVibes because they embody the spirit of entrepreneurial philosophy, connecting teachers and students all over the world.”
Initially, five for-sale, full-length classes and two free shorter videos by Gates will be available on YogaVibes, with more in the works.
“We are excited to reach tens of thousands of people worldwide,” said Mariam Gates, Gates Yoga program director.
Rolf Gates has been featured in Yoga Journal, Natural Health and People magazines. In 2002, Boston Magazine named him the city’s best yoga teacher. In 2007, Travel & Leisure included his former New York studio in its list of the top 25 yoga studios in the world.
“YogaVibes is honored to be the channel of Internet distribution for Gates Yoga and Rolf’s unique teaching style,” said company founder, Brian Ratté. “As we continue to attract world-class yoga instructors such as Rolf, we move closer to establishing ourselves as the Netflix of yoga."
YogaVibes offers customers different subscription packages to its expanding library of online yoga videos filmed at studios across the U.S. and Mexico. The site provides viewers with flexibility in their fitness routines at prices lower than the cost of classes at physical yoga studios.
With few exceptions, YogaVibes.com classes are filmed live on location. Unlike yoga DVDs, YogaVibes.com videos feature real students at an actual yoga studio. Viewers can try a variety of yoga styles, such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Anusara, and broaden their exposure to teachers around the world.
Along with its for-sale classes, YogaVibes.com offers free, instructional short videos taught by its partnering teachers. Viewers can learn the intricacies of a specific yoga pose or deepen their understanding of related topics, such as Ayurvedic medicine or yoga for golfers.
YogaVibes.com also highlights the connection between yoga and addictions recovery. On its Recovery Vibe page, YogaVibes.com offers online yoga classes tailored to recovering addicts, as well as video testimonials and other resources.
The benefits of yoga for those in recovery is also important to Rolf Gates, the cofounder of the upcoming Yoga and Recovery Summit Conference at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, Calif., Oct. 31-Nov. 5, 2010.
