YOUR DIL To Honor MTV’s Gideon Yago, Attendees to Raise Funds for Education in Rural Pakistan

US-based charity that builds schools for Pakistan's poor to honor MTV’s Gideon Yago at annual fundraiser in New York City.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 7, 2006 -- Youth Outreach, Developments in Literacy (YOUR DIL) will present Gideon Yago of MTV News with its YOUR DIL Leadership award at its annual fundraising gala September 15, 2006 for his Emmy-nominated coverage of the South Asian earthquake.

A diverse group of approximately 350 attendees will gather for “A Night on the Indus” at the Westside Loft in Manhattan to raise funds to build schools with a modern and inclusive curriculum in the most rural and impoverished parts of Pakistan. These schools provide much needed education in a country with an extremely high rate of illiteracy and are primarily built in areas which have limited access to schooling for girls. Specifically, the money raised during the night will go to the funding of a “model” school in Mansera, a town in the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP), severely affected by the earthquake. The school, to cater to approximately 350 students will feature handicapped access, crucial for the many children injured by the earthquake. It is estimated the October 2005 earthquake destroyed 8,000 schools in northern Pakistan.

In line with this year’s theme, “A Night on the Indus” will feature the 10,000 square foot loft dressed up as a traditional South Asian village with street vendors, henna artists and a hookah room. A special performance by a traditional Pakistani drummer will lead off a night of music by New York’s premiere DJ Aaron James of Guesthouse.

For more information about the event please see www.yourdil.org/indus.
