H.E. Yousef Al Otaiba, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the United States, welcomed hundreds of guests to the U.A.E. Embassy on December 2, 2008 to celebrate the 37th National Day of the U.A.E.

In just 37 years, the United Arab Emirates has become a model of progress and tolerance.  An Arab and Muslim nation, and a modern one as well

Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba greeted each arriving guest personally and delivered brief remarks on the status of the U.A.E.-U.S. bilateral relationship. Guests included senior U.S. government officials, foreign Ambassadors and other diplomats, representatives of prominent think tanks, and business leaders.

"In just 37 years, the United Arab Emirates has become a model of progress and tolerance.  An Arab and Muslim nation, and a modern one as well," said Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba in his remarks, noting the country's stunning economic development, the prominent role women play in Emirati society, and the fact that many of the world's greatest universities now have a presence in the U.A.E.

The U.A.E. enjoys a broad and comprehensive relationship with the United States, based on mutual economic and security interests. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba reminded the attending crowd of the close bilateral ties, noting that "In the past decade alone, we have witnessed an exponential growth in our military, security, economic, and cultural relations."

This was the first time Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba hosted the annual event as the Ambassador to the U.S., having taken up the Washington, D.C. post in July 2008.
