Orange County-Based YES Roman Feast & Charity Auction Helped Aisha Develop Life Skills

YES helps hundreds of local teens learn not only how to secure a job, but also the skills that will help them plan their futures.

Youth Employment Service (YES) of the Harbor Area, Inc., serving young people and employers for over forty years, continues to make a difference in the lives of Orange County youth. With funds from its signature annual event, the Roman Feast & Charity Auction, YES helps youth obtain their first job. Open to everyone, this year’s Roman Feast will be held on Saturday, March 16 at the OASIS Evelyn Hart Event Center in Corona del Mar.

Aisha, an 18-year-old youth, credits YES with helping her secure a job at Sunglass Hut. Aisha explains, “YES helped me, my brother David, and in turn my whole family. David now works for UPS and thanks to YES we're both able to help my mom pay the bills. With three streams of income in the house instead of just one, I was also able to buy my mom a Christmas present this year with my own money, which was a first!"

The YES programs not only teach important employment skills, but they also go above and beyond the basics to help youth with valuable everyday life skills. Aisha continued: "The classes at YES were a huge help. When I took the finance class, I had just opened a bank account so it was really helpful for me to learn about what to do with my money. Now, most of the money I get from every paycheck goes into savings.”

“Working with local employers, our goal is to give youth the skills they need to obtain and succeed at that critical first job,” explained Kathy Du Vernet, Executive Director of YES. “Each year YES helps hundreds of local teens learn not only how to secure a job, but also the skills that will help them plan their futures.”

YES invites its friends and others interested in supporting local youth to attend the 39th annual Roman Feast. Held at the OASIS Evelyn Hart Event Center in Corona del Mar, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, the Roman Feast features dinner, exciting auctions, inspiring stories, and entertainment.
