I looked to my beliefs for another version of ‘the adoptive story.’ What I love about this version of the ‘story,’ is how it leaves no room for incrimination or blame of the self or others.

Marci Bridgeford, author and mother, today announced her new children’s book “Zachary’s Story.” The uplifting story is a conversation between a mother and child that celebrates the joy of being an adoptive family. The book was released by AuthorHouse publishing and is available through http://www.ZacharysAdoption.com.

“Children arrive in families in different ways,” said Marci Bridgeford, author. “It’s important for adopted children and their extended families to understand that they are born of both a birth mother’s love and the love of the mother who so gratefully welcomes the child into her world. In this book, I wanted to explain that there are many different ways to become a family whether it is through adoption, marriage, crisis or love – all are chosen and should be celebrated.”

Ms. Bridgeford also states that the intent of “Zachary’s Story” is to show new ways of looking at old stereotypes that can accompany adoption and blended families and replace them with feelings of self worth, power, love of self and family.

“I am an adoptive mom of four daughters and the biological mother of one, and as a psychotherapist specializing in children’s issues, I know the professional literature available to parents of adoptive children tells us of the dark hole of abandonment that many and/or all adopted children feel,” said Ty Yarnell, M.S.W. “I wanted it to be different for my girls and looked to my beliefs for another version of ‘the adoptive story.’ Until reading ‘Zachary’s Story,’ there was nothing but my words and the images that a young child creates as their imagination fills the spaces where words leave off. What I love about this version of the ‘story,’ is how it leaves no room for incrimination or blame of the self or other.”

Ms. Bridgeford will be signing books at a launch party on July 29, 2010 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Antiquite Maison Privee located at 2114 P Street, Sacramento, California. The book is also available online at Target, Walmart, Borders, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
