Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 3, 2009
Wi-Ex, the leading provider of consumer cell phone signal boosters, is joining companies across the county in recognition of Telework Day on August 3. Wi-Ex is one of the growing number of companies using teleworking to help both the environment and employees. Wi-Ex started teleworking on a trial basis earlier this year with select departments. Telework Day is another sign of the growing teleworking trend. According to the zBoost "State of the Cell Signal Survey" commissioned by Wi-Ex and conducted by Harris Interactive, 31 percent of employed cell phone owners spend at least some time teleworking, or working from home, each week.
"We started allowing select departments the option to telework earlier this year and have been happy with the results," said Lloyd R. Meese, CEO of Wi-Ex. "We took a very strategic approach to the departments that make the most sense and it has worked very well in both our marketing and accounting departments. Our employees enjoy the flexibility of teleworking and being based in Atlanta they look forward to not having to worry about one of the nation's worst commutes."
Atlanta ranks second in the nation for worst commutes. According to Atlantacommute.com, commuting costs Atlantans 60 hours a year. While Telework Day is a joint project by the Telework Exchange, Telework!VA and Virginia government officials to help the environment and reduce cost, the Telework Exchange is encouraging companies and states across the county to join the campaign. The Telework Exchange site has a built-in calculator that helps individuals see how much they are saving (or could save) in commuting costs, as well as the pounds of pollutants you avoid putting in the air by telecommuting.
'My commute is 22 miles one day and on a good day it takes me between 20 and 30 minutes, but with rain or high traffic it can take up to an hour each way," said Sharon Cuppett, Wi-Ex Vice President of Marketing. "By teleworking I am able to spend that time focused on my work. In addition, the marketing team all telework one day a week and I found that myself as well as my team are often more productive on those days. We require a report of all of their completed work during their telework days and the reports back up that their productivity is up and I know from personal experience that it makes them enjoy their jobs more."
zBoost: Technology That Makes Teleworking Work
One major challenge for teleworkers is reliable in-door cell phone signal. The zBoost "State of the Cell Signal" Survey found that 38 percent of teleworkers experience cell phone service problems while teleworking, including poor signal reception or dead zones in their home (26 percent) and dropped calls (21%).
In addition, the survey found that 54 percent of teleworkers consider their cell phone extremely or very important to successful teleworking and 22 percent consider their PDA or smart phone such as Blackberry, iPhone or Treo extremely or very important to successful teleworking. Other technology considered extremely or very important for successful teleworking included computer (88%), high speed Internet (84%), and home phone i.e., landline (38%). The zBoost product line allows consumers to take full advantage of voice, data and Internet services on their mobile phones, including 3G high-speed data and video, instant messaging, pictures and more.
