Poverty and hunger exist in Northern Virginia. Even though Northern Virginia is considered one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country, there is still a poverty rate of 5%. Based on US Census figures, that leaves 90,183 persons living in poverty, 30% of which are children.

Local Arlington Lions Club Brings the Gift of Literacy to Blind Youth

Students Get Focused. Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax Education Association, and the Lions of Northern Virginia Join Read Across America

This year the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), Fairfax Education Association (FEA) and Lions of Northern Virginia joined forces to Get Focused on Reading, a campaign designed for students to help promote literacy throughout the world by collecting and recycling used eyeglasses. Fliers were sent out asking parents to look through dresser drawers and closets for used eyeglasses to donate to the Lions Recycle for Sight Program.
