16% of UK Drivers Delay MOT To Save On Costs Says, ATS Euromaster
(PRWEB UK) 30 August 2013 -- The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders have found that 10 million vehicle owners across the UK have driven without their statutory annual test.
Of the 10 million, 67 per cent of drivers admitted to driving 7 days without an up to date MOT certificate, 24 per cent say they drove for up to a month and 7 per cent were driving unroadworthy and potentially dangerous vehicles for 6 months.
ATS Euromaster are offering discounted Car MOTs until the 31st August 2013. The tyre retailer is offering Car MOTs for a reduced price of £30 exclusively online before the new registration plates change.
Anita Ellis, Online Marketing Manager, says: “Drivers will be able to book in advance for Car, Van and 4x4 MOTs in September or later on in the year. For just £30, drivers will get a convenient hourly appointment which includes all general checks, together with the inspection of the vehicle structure and exhaust emission.”
“It's so important to encourage drivers to book and take their MOT test on time. 7% per cent of drivers are taking unnecessary risk on our roads, endangering themselves and others,” adds Ellis.
ATS Euromaster already allow customers to sign up for a free MOT reminder service, but campaigners have called for a statutory reminder system to be put into place across the UK to negate the problem of drivers who genuinely forget to book their car in for an MOT.
According to a poll by Insure My Excess, 10% of drivers delay the test to save money and 16% of drivers delay getting their vehicle repaired once they've found out it has failed.
Whilst insurance isn’t immediately invalidated under all policies, many insurers stipulate in the small print that a valid MOT certificate must be present in the event of a claim.
The most serious offence for which you can be charged for using a vehicle that is not roadworthy is dangerous driving which can result in up to two years in prison.
Ellis, says: “As the new registration plates come in, September 2013 will also mark the first MOT for new cars in 2010. This means drivers will get a more affordable price on their car’s first MOT and service.”
