Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A. – Pilkington Activ™ Self-Cleaning Glass will be one of two “Best of Show” products featured by reporter Barbara Sloan on an April Home & Garden TV program about the 2002 International Builders’ Show (IBS).

“Pilkington Activ™ Glass is a great example of how technology is making life more convenient for today’s homeowner,” said Jean Grenda, producer with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Production Group, who filmed the report at the IBS. “With products like Pilkington Activ™ Self-Cleaning Glass, homeowners can achieve the home of their dreams, and still have time to enjoy it.”

The hour-long program, entitled 2002 International Builders’ Show, is tentatively scheduled to air at 9 p.m. on April 21, and at 5 p.m. on April 27. To find out more about the program and broadcast dates and times, visit http://www.hgtv.com.

Pilkington’s 2002 IBS exhibit, which featured Pilkington Activ™ Glass, attracted great interest from homebuilders, designers, architects, window manufacturers and dealers, etc. More than 71,000 people attended the IBS Feb. 8-11 in Atlanta.

Introduced to North America in June 2001, Pilkington Activ™ Glass significantly reduces, if not eliminates, the amount of time and costs needed for homeowners and building owners to wash their windows. It is currently available from window manufacturers, dealers, and commercial glass fabricators throughout North America.

Pilkington Activ™ Self-Cleaning Glass works in two ways. First, its PhotoActiv™ properties use the sun’s ultraviolet light, which occurs naturally during daylight, to continuously attack and dissolve dirt. This is the glass’ “Dirt Destroyer™” action. Secondly, when it rains, water sheets off of the active (exterior) surface washing away any undissolved dirt and eliminating any streaks or water spots. This is called the hydrophilic or “water sheeting” effect.

After being installed, windows with Pilkington Activ™ Self-Cleaning Glass need to be “charged” by UV light for several days to activate the PhotoActiv and hydrophilic properties. Once activated, the self-cleaning process will continue to work at night and even on cloudy days.

Pilkington Activ™ Glass can be used in new and replacement windows, transoms and skylights in homes, apartments and condominiums. It can also be used in commercial and institutional buildings, such as offices, schools and universities, retail stores, etc.
