IAdea's EDP405 Enhanced Digital Photography processor is the first of its kind to record high-resolution VCDs containing digital photos directly from the memory cards.

As standalone photo burners enter the market, owners of digital cameras recognize the value of recording valuable photos on durable and inexpensive CD-R discs. However, none of the products in the market today records a disc that is compatible with the DVD player already in use in millions of homes. IAdea is offering the first solution of its kind.

IAdea is announcing the availability of the ARM-based EDP405 Enhanced Digital Photography processor for recording photo CDs in the high-resolution VCD format. The VCD format is the most well-supported video disc format on the CD. Almost all DVD players that is CD-R-compatible can directly playback the VCD format. On the other hand, current photo burners store photos as JPEG files, which is poorly supported by the DVD players and is only useful when viewed with a computer.

"Standalone photo recorders are gaining popularity because burning CDs on a computers is still too difficult for most users. Our technology is a breakthrough in standalone photo recording." Says President and CEO John C. Wang of IAdea. "The difference is obvious to the consumer. In one case you will need a computer to see the photos on the recorded disc. Alternatively, using our technology you simply throw the disc into any DVD player for photo viewing."

IAdea's EDP405 is designed with the "100% PC-free" concept where the entire process from photo taking to photo storage and retrieval can be completed without any knowledge of the computer or CD burning. Operating an EDP405-based unit is touch-of-a-button, foolproof and fun.

In addition to breakthrough in functionality, the EDP405 also makes possible a revolution in unit price. "We expect to see EDP405 products in the market for US$199 MSRP, and close to $100 in street retail. All popular memory card formats are supported. That promises a market boost for photo recorders."

New products using the EDP405 are under development through IAdea's ODL technology licensing programs. For licensing and pricing information, please contact IAdea.
